States, Discos' refusal of High Voltage Distribution Systems, affecting power supply

A recent report on the status of electricity projects built within the framework of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) has disclosed that some State governments and the electricity distribution companies may have, by their choices, contributed to poor power distribution in the country.

According to ThisDay; the report noted that the refusal of some state governments to grant work approvals for the deployment of High Voltage Distribution Systems (HVDS) in several locations within their states may be delaying the distribution of relatively stable power to consumers within the affected locations in the States.

The report which was obtained from the presidency in Abuja, also revealed that some Discos have in their continued refusal to take over completed electricity substations and HVDS from the NIPP, short-changed their customers from enjoying improved power supply in their networks.

It listed Lagos and Rivers States, as well as Enugu Disco, Port Harcourt Disco and Benin Disco, as some of the affected states and Discos.
