Tanzania Finalizes LNG Site Issues

The government of Tanzania has finalized issues related to the site of its planned LNG plant. The government has now secured the title deed and paid compensation to relevant parties as required by law, according to a TPDC statement.

The state-run oil and gas company now owns the title deed for some 2,071.705 hectares of land that the planned two-train LNG terminal will be located on. An additional 17,000 hectares of land has been secured around the site for an industrial park.

The land was bought from large landowners and some individual villagers.

Tanzania’s natural gas reserves are estimated at more than 55 Tcf and the companies developing these reserves, BG/Ophir Energy and Statoil/ExxonMobil have been waiting for TPDC to settle the site issues before moving forward with a FID on the project.

As plans stand now, the facility should be up and running in the early 2020s.
