Ethiopia, in an event held on Wednesday on sidelines of the ongoing World Energy Council Executive summit at the UNECA in Addis Ababa, presented its best practices in the energy sector.
Minister of Water, Irrigation and Electricity, Motuma Mekasa, said Ethiopia is aggressively working to utilize its untapped renewable energy reserves and diversify its source of energy.
The minister pointed out that Ethiopia is striving to generate power from hydropower, solar, wind, geothermal and dry waste.
He underlined that Ethiopia's power generation mega projects are being built with the intention of realizing regional integration and mutual growth.
Chief operator at the Ethiopian Electric Power Transmission, Abebe Kahsay, said that Ethiopia is working to acquire best practices in the energy sector from different countries and build domestic capacity in power production, transmission and management.
He stressed that Ethiopia's energy sources are by and large clean as the source of energy is predominantly hydro-power.
He also mentioned Ethiopia working to ensure energy efficiency, conservation and sustainability while also working on natural resource conservation to build green economy.
Participants of the World Energy Council Executive summit appreciated Ethiopia's unreserved effort to build green energy.
They also commended Ethiopia's endeavor to bring regional integration through electric power lines and called on other developing nations to follow the country's example in green energy policy and strategy.
