Sterling and Wilson to construct 300MW of PV plants in Egypt

India-based EPC firm Sterling and Wilson plans to construct 300MW solar PV projects in Egypt, having recently set up an international office in Cairo.

The company intends to capitalize on the feed-in tariff programme for renewable energy brought in by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy in September 2014.

The firm has already won two projects of 50MW capacity in the country and plans to build a further 200MW. The plants will be constructed at solar parks, which are being developed by the New and Renewable Energy Authority of Egypt at Ben Ban, Aswan and Zafarana. The company plans to build at least one of the 50MW plants in less than 10 months.

Sterling and Wilson has recently been awarded a 62.5MW EPC contract in Jordan, whilst in June Enfinity Philippines Renewable Resources, a subsidiary of PV developer Enfinity N.V. appointed Sterling and Wilson to set up a 28.6 MW PV plant in Sanroque, Philippines.

Bikesh Ogra, president, Electrical and Solar Business, Sterling and Wilson, said: “We are confident of reaching our target in Egypt and are delighted that we are engaged with Qualified Companies, many of with whom we are already working in South Africa, Jordan, UAE, India, South East Asia and Latin America.”
