A New Record is set for Ethiopia's Energy Capacity, Surpassing 6,000 Megawatts

The country's energy generation capacity has surpassed 6,000MW, according to the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE).

Ethiopia's goal for renewable energy goes beyond generating to include the construction of infrastructure. To improve energy accessibility and connect additional villages to the grid, the nation has extended its distribution networks to more than 150,000 kilometers and constructed more than 20,000 kilometers of transmission lines.

The government is making an ambitious change in the transportation sector by incorporating renewable energy into other industries. In order to cut greenhouse gas emissions and save foreign exchange that would have been used for fuel, Ethiopia has outlawed the import of engine-powered vehicles in favor of electric vehicles (EVs).
