A high-voltage power line project worth $900 million is being discussed between Tanzania and the Adani Group, an east African official has revealed.
According to David Kafulila, executive director of Tanzania's Public-Private Partnership Center, Adani Group has conveyed its interest to the East African government. Tanzania is also in talks with UK Company Gridworks Development Partners LLP for a $300 million power-lines project under the public-private partnership.
With investments in Tanzania and Kenya, the company of Indian billionaire Gautam Adani is extending its reach throughout East Africa. In May, Tanzania granted it a 30-year concession to run the port of Dar es Salaam's major container terminal.
Adani is negotiating a concession to build high-voltage power lines in Kenya worth $736 million with the country's electrical transmission utility. The group's plan to manage Nairobi, the country's capital,'s principal airport has prompted demonstrations, Senate hearings, and legal action.
