The government has signed the Head of Terms (HoT) for a Joint Venture Agreement with Rosetta Energy Solutions and Africa 50 to execute the Mini Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project. This significant initiative aims to expand natural gas distribution across Tanzania, marking a milestone in the country's energy landscape. Dr. James Mataragio, Ewura's director general, hailed the project as a revolution in natural gas access, poised to reach more areas than ever before and significantly supporting the government's clean cooking energy initiatives.
This collaboration between the private sector and public institutions underscores the government's credibility in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and demonstrates the effectiveness of leveraging international financing mechanisms to catalyze local investments. The project, with a target investment of over $100 million, will enhance Tanzania's gas pipeline network through scalable, movable, and modular LNG solutions. This will create multiple jobs and ensure early access to natural gas for industries, households, and vehicles.
The signing of the HoT initiates key preliminary activities, including a feasibility study, site selection, and initial design planning, paving the way for rapid project implementation. This agreement follows President Samia Suluhu Hassan's recent launch of a strategy for a smooth and accelerated transition to clean cooking energy.
