Seismic data gathering for Dangote gas pipeline project begins

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has said that seismic data gathering work has begun for the ambitious multi billion dollar gas pipeline network which is set to quadruple gas supply in Nigeria, BusinessDay reports.

Dangote said that his company plans to start laying the pipelines before the end of the year, with the first one to become ready by mid-2017. “We are making steady progress on the pipeline project and foresee no major hitches,” he said to BusinessDay. He also noted that the pipelines will be capable of carrying about three billion standard cubic feet, scf of gas daily when it is completed.

He added that the completed pipelines could be used by oil producers in Nigeria that currently have little incentive to sell gas from their fields in the country, including Royal Dutch Shell Plc. and Exxon Mobil Corp.
