Tanzania: Osha Plans To Hire 6500 Workers In The Oil And Gas Industry Across The Country.

OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) aims to provide safety and health training to at least 6,500 personnel in the oil and gas industry across the country.
Over the weekend, the countrywide programme began in Dar es Salaam's Kinondoni area before spreading to other parts of the country.
In Kinondoni, District Commissioner Godwin Gondwe urged training participants to act as ambassadors, spreading the knowledge they had gained to their workplaces in order to prevent workplace accidents.
"It's a significant deal to train 6,500 workers across the country. Given that training is meant to protect personnel and customers who seek services from fuel stations, OSHA should be applauded "Mr. Gondwe explained.
The training, according to the District Commissioner, will protect investors in the oil and gas sector from fires, allowing for long-term investment for national growth.
Khadija Mwenda, OSHA's Chief Executive Officer, said the training was part of implementing the 2003 Act on Occupational Safety and Health.
She stated that the authority provides training to workers' representatives at gasoline depots and petrol outlets across the country. The training came after the OSHA concluded inspections at those places and identified various challenges on safety and health," she said.
"The law requires that every workplace should have a worker who has been trained on how to provide first aid to his or her fellow workers when injured at workplaces or get other health challenges," she said.
Mr Kassima Mtema, one of the seminar's participants, said he learned how to offer first aid at his workplace as a result of the training.
"After this training I am now capable of serving my fellow workers who get challenge of safety and health at workplaces such as victims of fire accidents and others," he said.
As the OSHA begins the countrywide training marathon, 400 workers have been trained in the Kinondoni district.
