It has been planned by Tanzania Port Authority (TPA) to come up with a new jetty at Raskazone oil terminal in Tanga Port as this port is capable enough to accomodate medium sized oil tankers with a Dead Weight Tonnage (DWT) between 80000 and 120000.

This plan of developing a jetty at Tanga Port is at the stage of engaging a consultant which is following a successful completion of geotechnical survey which is carried out by University of Dar es Salaam engineering company BICCO.

The manager of Tanga Port, Mr. Percival Salama, stated that " this decision was brought forward after the government decided to use Tanga Port as the second entry point option for petroleum products under BPS (Bulk System of Importation) effective from July 2015." And since it has started functioning at the Port from July 2015 to date, a total of 702965.660 metric tonnes of petroleum products have been handled.

"This port has facilities to handle petroleum oil products and Liquified Petroleum Gas. These facilities include two conventional buoy Moorings (CBMs), that is, one for refined petroleum oil products and the other for Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG)", Percival Salama commented.

The present jetty is designed to handle oil tanker of upto 183 metres Length Overall Average (LOA) which has the carrying capacity of Dead Weight Tonnage (DWT) of 45000 metric tonnes.

Whereas, the jetty that is planned to develop at Tanga Port is specially designed with the arrangements of facilities that can allow to berth vessels with more than 183 metres.
