A series of agreements for hydrocarbon exploration in the Mediterranean have been signed by Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mevlut Çavusoglu, and Libya’s Foreign Minister, H.E. Najla al-Mangoush, in Libya’s capital city of Tripoli.
The signing ceremony, which took place on October 3, was attended by the Prime Minister of the Libyan Unity Government, H.E. Abdul Hamid Dbeibé, who stressed the importance of the deal and its propensity to strengthen Libya and Turkey’s relations.
“We’ve signed a MoU on exploration for hydrocarbons in Libya’s territorial waters and on Libyan soil by Turkish-Libyan joint ventures,” stated H.E. Minister Çavusoglu during a press conference in Tripoli, adding, “The Hydrocarbon Agreement that we just signed aims to allow cooperation between Turkish companies such as exploration and drilling with a “win-win” understanding in our maritime jurisdictions both on land and at sea.”
Meanwhile, H.E. Minister al-Mangoush highlighted the importance of the exploration agreement in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its repercussions on global energy markets.
“We stress the need for the international community to carry out its duties towards Libya more seriously and with more awareness, and to deal firmly with and firmly against the countries obstructing the peaceful and democratic process in Libya,” stated H.E. Minister al-Mangoush.
