Stiegler's Gorge Hydroelectric Power Project to Empower Tanzania with 2,100 MW of Power and 5,400 jobs.

Tanzania's government is quite optimistic that thousands of jobs would be generated after the implementation of the  Stiegler's Gorge Hydroelectric Power Station.

Stiegler's Gorge Hydroelectric Power Station which would generate more than 2,100 megawatts of electricity could employ at least 5,400  Tanzanians during its implementation.

The predicted construction cost is currently estimated at USD 360 crore.

Energy Minister Medard Kalemani told Parliament's Energy and Minerals Committee that 5,000 Tanzanians would be employed as temporary workers and 400 others would be employed on a permanent basis.

Kalemani who visited the construction site recently said "Other 400 Tanzanians will be employed when the project starts to generate 2,225MW. This means they will be employed after construction,".

Electricity would be provided to 37 villages in Kibiti and Chalinze once the project is complete The Tanzania Rural Energy Agency (REA) program will connect a total of 12 villages to electricity.

Tanzania's government signed a construction contract with Egypt's Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric in December last year. The site was handed over by the government to the Egyptian contractor in February this year.
